“The Gulf was My Church” – A Fisherman Reflects on Loving, and Leaving, the Gulf Coast | Bridge The Gulf Project

“The Gulf was My Church” – A Fisherman Reflects on Loving, and Leaving, the Gulf Coast | Bridge The Gulf Project.

An excerpt:

“Bait boat, you out there Joey?”
“Go ahead, Cap” I replied.
“Can you believe that it blew up?”

I was speechless as I then knew the magnitude of the disaster.  What I did not know was that my life would change forever that day, and so would the lives of many others.  I decided to come in early after the rush to try to catch the news and find out any details about the explosion. Mystery Illness Confirmed By Doctor In Louisiana, Gulf Oil Spill To Blame

Al Jareera TV – one year after the BP oil disaster – any changes?

Are the US government and energy companies willing to change their policies?

What affect did last year’s BP oil spill have on changing government and energy company policies? And how can we assess the damage of the spill when so many conflicting scientific reports are continuing to be published?

It would take 86 days to stop the oil from flowing after the explosion of British Petroleum’s Deepwater Horizon rig that killed eleven men and spewed millions of barrels of crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico. Exactly one year later, the US Gulf Coast is still trying to recover from the large amounts of destruction caused by the country’s worst offshore oil spill.

On Tuesday’s Riz Khan Show, we talk to Mike Robichaux, a Louisiana physician who has been treating patients suffering from mystery illnesses believed to be caused by the effects of the accident; Cherri Foytlin, a woman who walked from New Orleans to Washington to highlight the suffering of victims of the spill; and Carl Safina, a prominent ecologist and author of “A Sea in Flames: The Deepwater Horizon Oil Blowout.”

Ex BP cleanup worker speaks: people are sick and dying in the Gulf

Notes from a Facebook buddy:

This young woman, Jennifer Rexford, BP-hired oil cleanup worker, is documenting her illness from the toxins in the gulf with her video camera. If you think it’s just headaches or something like that, watch this. Severe neurological damage. Doctors and hospitals refuse to acknowledge this with anyone there who’s sick.  And there are apparently tens of thousands now.

Paul Doomm is mentioned twice in this video.  He is a 22 year old who swam in and ate from the Gulf all summer, against his grandmother’s advice.  He has been hospitalized after seeing 94 doctors who don’t know what to do for him.  His  blood had the highest amount of PAH’s ever documented.  You can see Paul in this video (he’s the one in the wheelchair).

In this 2/21/11 video, Jennifer’s eye is swollen shut. She shows the results of a blood workup for Gulf chemicals and she is loaded with them. She also shows her hospital record, where she was diagnosed for stroke. The hospitals will not admit people are sick and dying from the chemicals in the gulf.

Gulf Coast Residents Protest Lack of Response from BP

Residents who live along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, all the way from Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, to well into western Florida, continue to tell me of acute symptoms they attribute to ongoing exposure to toxic chemicals being released from BP’s crude oil and the toxic Corexit dispersants used to sink it.

Shirley Tillman from Pass Christian, Mississippi, and former BP Vessels of Opportunity oil cleanup worker wrote me recently:

“You can’t even go to the store without seeing sick people! You can hear them talking to people and they think they have the flu or a virus. I saw a girl that works at a local store yesterday that had to leave work because she was so sick! Others, throughout the entire store were hacking & coughing. It’s crazy that this has been allowed to happen to all of us!”

Oil continues to wash ashore. That which was already there, usually in the form of tar balls or mats of tar, is being uncovered by the weather. Continue reading

The Increasing Human Devastation From The BP Blowout

A film by Jerry Cope

This is the grizzly truth – what the EPA and BP poured into the Gulf of Mexico to hide the oil and save BP pensioners from loosing money… this 22 year old boy, against the advice of grandparents, swam in the Gulf all summer long. Now he can’t walk. Please pray for Paul, he is in a medically induced coma as we speak…

Corexit sunk the oil, but made the toxicity of the crude 11 times worse. What dissolves oil also dissolves living flesh.  It is sad that the media, therefore America, considered the oil spill ‘story’ over once they plugged the leaking pipe.
